Quality-of-Life Initiatives

The Siouxland Initiative (TSI) recognizes the importance of quality-of-life amenities in attracting and retaining a skilled workforce. TSI has been involved in an financially supported many quality-of-life initiatives in Siouxland over the past few years.

BIG SIOUX RIVER PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE CROSSING

  • Connects Sioux City, IA and Dakota Dunes, SD
  • Capital investment: $2.3 million

CHRIS LARSEN PARK RIVERFRONT DEVELOPMENT

  • Project along the Missouri River: parks, event spaces, native plantings, active recreation areas, fitness stations, shelters, basketball courts
  • Capital investment: $12 million

CONE PARK MOUNTAIN BIKE PARK

  • 10.5 miles of bike trails for all levels of experience, including a pump track
  • Designed by International Mountain Bike Association (IMBA)
  • Capital investment: $2.8 million

DESTINATION IOWA

  • $7 million award for closing gaps and connecting trails from Sergeant Bluff, IA to Le Mars, IA
  • Capital investment: $18.9 million

FIRST SERVE TENNIS CENTER

  • $1.5 million facility
  • Opened in 2021 with three courts
  • $1.8 million expansion in 2023 with three additional courts

LE MARS COMMUNITY BETTERMENT PROJECTS

  • Off leash dog park, trail, benches, tables, drinking fountains
  • Capital investment: $205,000

MIRACLE FIELD

  • Recreational facilities designed for individuals with disabilities
  • Added another turf baseball field, a bocce ball court, and a wheelchair accessible swing
  • Capital investment: $650,000

PLYWOOD TRAIL

  • 16 miles of trails connecting Sioux City, Hinton, Merrill, and Le Mars
  • Capital investment: $18.5 million

SIOUX POINT ROAD PEDESTRIAN TRAIL

  • Connecting Dakota Dunes with North Sioux City and providing access to Dakota Valley School and Adams Nature Preserve
  • Capital investment: $1.3 million

SIOUXLAND FREEDOM PARK

  • 55-acre park honoring American veterans with half-scale replica of the Vietnam Memorial Wall, an interpretive center and a replica of the Korean War Memorial
  • Capital investment: $2.8 million
